Legislative Advocacy Committee
WSPA’s commitment to advocacy.
WSPA has a long history advocating for mental health, the field of psychology, and social issues that affect Washingtonians.
The historic priorities WSPA has always supported in regard to policy and regulatory issues are:
- Maintaining the integrity and strength of psychology licensing laws
- Legislation and policies that affect disciplinary process (e.g. sentencing guidelines of unprofessional conduct)
- Address any bills that affect how we practice (e.g. changes to mental health parity or insurance)
- Social justice legislation (e.g. access to care)
Our Legislative Advocacy Committee (LAC) collaborates with the WSPA Director of Professional Affairs & Policy, Grass Roots group, and WSPA lobbyist to contribute to WSPA’s annual legislative goals and priorities and present their recommendations to the Board of Trustees which is responsible for approval of the plan, policies, and resources. The LAC strives to remain informed about emerging Legislative issues, insurance trends, and activities within the Office of the Insurance Commission (OIC) because they impact our membership. LAC may also contribute to WSPA public comments on social issues and United Psychologists Political Action Committee (UP-PAC) efforts.
