Professional Consultations

Members of the Washington State Psychological Association (WSPA) have access to professional consultation resources to support ethical decision-making, legal compliance, and professional practice. This service is part of WSPA’s broader mission to foster a strong professional community and to support psychologists in practice.  Engaging in consultation fosters professional community and connection, promotes shared learning, enhances professional confidence, reduces liability risk, and promotes high standards of care. Consultation is a member benefit intended to offer general guidance. It does not constitute legal advice, clinical supervision, or liability for outcomes.

Ethics Consultation

As a vital member benefit, the Washington State Psychological Association (WSPA) offers access to confidential ethics consultations provided by its Ethics Committee. The Committee will provide members with expert guidance to navigate complex ethical dilemmas in alignment with the American Psychological Association’s Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct and Washington state considerations. These consultations assist members in examining their professional responsibilities through the lens of the principles and standards of the APA Ethics Code of Conduct. Through these consultations, WSPA reinforces its commitment to ethical excellence and supports its members in upholding the highest standards of professional conduct.

Legal Consultation

The JD/PhD Committee provides up to 1-hour free legal consultation to WSPA Full Members. Legal consultations may assist with issues such as subpoenas for client records, duty to warn/duty to protect obligations, HIPAA compliance in telehealth settings, or managing practice retirement. 

Practice Consultations

The Washington State Psychological Association (WSPA) provides confidential professional practice consultations to assist members in managing the evolving landscape of psychological care. Consultations are led by WSPA’s Director of Professional Affairs and Policy (DPA-P) with input from trusted experts to support ethical, sustainable, and high-quality practice. Members can seek guidance on topics including insurance and reimbursement, documentation, record-keeping and regulatory compliance, supervision and management of trainees and staff, career transitions and practice growth, and emerging practice areas such as integrated care and telehealth.
